Birth and Baby Foundations (14 hours)

For home birth, birth center, or hospital birth parents! Evidence-based information designed to equip your family with knowledge and insight to make sound decisions for your baby through the birth experience, from pregnancy through the newborn period.


Details

  • 7 weekly classes, 2 hours each

  • Cost: $385 per couple (partner or support person), 3-part payment plan available*

  • Class cost includes a personalized 45 minute consultation, during pregnancy or up to 6 months postpartum ($60 value)

  • Class cost includes a digital, printable packet of class handouts and resource guides


Class layout:

  • Class 1: The 3rd trimester, preparing your environment (home, hospital, birth center), and questions to ask your care team

  • Class 2: The physiological process of labor and birth, and the hormones involved in facilitating a smoother, less painful birth

  • Class 3: The placenta & methods of coping during each stage of labor, including what partner and Doula support

  • Class 4: Hospital transfers and emergencies during birth

  • Class 5: Interventions, inductions, augmentations, cesarean births, and postpartum

  • Class 6: Breastfeeding (including bottle feeding) and babywearing

  • Class 7: Newborn care, common vaccines, circumcision, tummy time, brain development, and baby safety

  • How much milk does my baby need?

  • Is my baby getting enough?

  • The “window and way” of introducing a bottle without disrupting the breastfeeding relationship

  • Clogged ducts and mastitis: it’s in your hands

  • Under-supply, over-supply, and milk “stash”: social media pitfalls

Breastfeeding Mini Class (5 hours)

For those interested only in the breastfeeding portion of our class, plus a bit more!

  • 5 hours split into two days, 2.5 hours each

  • Cost: $150 per couple (partner or support person)

  • Class cost includes a personalized 45 minute consultation, during pregnancy or up to 6 months postpartum ($60 value)

  • Class cost includes digital, printable class handouts and resource guides


Class layout:

  • Day 1:

    • Supply: establishing breastfeeding output, true under-supply, true over-supply, and maintaining while pumping or supplementing

    • Normal variations of breastfeeding: nipple anatomy, positions for latching baby, refill rate, and capacity

    • Milk storage: stashes, pumps, and basics

  • Day 2:

    • Tips for avoiding common issues

    • Red flags: signs that you or your baby need additional support

    • Getting help: resources for support before you need it

Homebirth Mini Class (5 hours)

For experienced mothers who feel confident in most of the topics from our Foundations class above.

  • 5 hours split into two days, 2.5 hours each

  • Cost: $150 per couple (partner or support person), 3-part payment plan available*

  • Class cost includes a personalized 45 minute consultation, during pregnancy or up to 6 months postpartum ($60 value)

  • Class cost includes a digital, printable packet of class handouts and resource guides


Class layout:

  • Day 1:

    • Birthing at home: statistics, what to prepare for, and what to ask, and how to choose your team

    • Daily habits during pregnancy that help baby's position prior to birth

  • Day 2:

    • Options for managing pain at home, labor comfort measures, and partner support

    • Hospital transfers, emergencies, and some common interventions for both you and your baby
