Meet Lana

Mother, Birthkeeper, Community Weaver & Traditional Knowledge Holder

Lana is a passionate Metis birthkeeper devoted to honouring the sacredness of birth and walking alongside mothers and families through life's most meaningful transitions. While she formally began her birth work in 2021, supporting women, children, and families has been woven into her life for over 15 years. As an Indigenous social worker, Lana has spent much of her life supporting family wellness, advocacy, and community care.

A mother of five, Lana's understanding of birth and motherhood is deeply rooted in her own lived experiences. Following the homebirth of her first child in 2016, she felt a growing calling to walk more closely alongside other mothers. Through her own birth journeys, she has come to understand the profound importance of feeling informed, empowered, and deeply supported. She believes birth is a sacred rite of passage and that mothers and families deserve to be met with respect, sovereignty, compassion, and unwavering care, wherever and however they choose to welcome their babies.

Outside of birth work, Lana finds joy in the natural world and the everyday practices that bring her family together. She loves foraging with her children, working with plant allies, making traditional medicines and remedies, drumming, and gathering women in circle. Whether holding ceremonies on her own land or bringing people together within her community, she finds great meaning in creating spaces where women and families can reconnect with the Earth, tradition, and one another.

At the heart of Lana's work is the belief that caring for mothers is caring for families, and caring for families is caring for communities. This work is not separate from how she lives; it is woven into her motherhood, her relationships, her traditions, and her connection to the land.

Lana invites you to gather, learn, and walk alongside her as we bring traditional knowledge, community care, and reverence for life's sacred passages back into the spaces where they belong.

Traditional Teachings & Lifelong Learning

Alongside my formal education and professional training, I have been deeply fortunate to learn from many generous Knowledge Keepers and Elders who have shared their teachings, wisdom, and traditions with me throughout my journey. I carry these teachings with immense gratitude, humility, and respect, honouring those who have guided me and the responsibility that comes with sharing what I have been gifted.

My learning is an ongoing journey, rooted in relationships, lived experience, listening, and a commitment to continually deepening my understanding. I am forever grateful to the teachers who have walked alongside me, shared their knowledge, and helped shape the work I am honoured to offer today.
